She studied Social Work and Social Education, Sociology and Economics and graduated at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University Trier, Germany. She obtained her PhD at the same University and received the Venia Legendi (Habilitation) in welfare studies at the Technical University of Dresden, Germany.
